Frequently Asked Questions About Microblading

FrequentlyAsked Questions About Microblading

It was not too long ago that we were obsessed with making our eyebrows thin. We would use tiny tweezers and pluck out the hairs until there was hardly anything but a whisper of an eyebrow. Oh, how times have changed! We now realize that having thicker, bolder brows are a better way to frame your face as well as make you appear more youthful. While there are many ways you can make your eyebrows appear fuller and tidier with some makeup magic, microblading is quickly gaining popularity as the smarter alternative. We here at Lily Handt health + beauty are here to answer some of the most frequent microblading questions that we are asked by our guests:

  • What is microblading? Microblading is a series of small, semi-permanent tattoos that are applied to look like strands of hair along your eyebrows or hairline, giving you the appearance of fuller eyebrows. The pigment is usually applied with a microblade, which is about the size of a small needle. At Lily Handt health + beauty, our pigments are all natural and organic.
  • Does it hurt? Everyone has different tolerance to pain, but most people do not feel much during microblading. In many cases, a topical numbing agent will do the trick and even then, the recovery pain is often described as feeling like a mild sunburn.
  • How long does it last? Great question! Lasting time varies depending on what you are starting with, the individual’s skin type, age of the skin, lifestyle, daily medications and so on. Microblading usually takes 2+ sessions before it is complete. If you maintain the touchups on your brows over time, the microblading will last year after year. Remember, this is semi-permanent pigment and not a permanent tattoo, so touchups will be necessary over time.
  • What if it looks bad? It is important to do your research! So finding an expert the first time is worth it.

Common Causes for Dark Spots [infographic]

Common Causes for Dark Spots [infographic]

Dark spots on the skin are called hyperpigmentation and are something that we can help you with here at Lily Handt health + beauty. Our dark spot removal is a non-surgical, non-invasive technique to give you more even skin tone. If you would like to know more about this service, we welcome your call to schedule a consultation. We also want to share with you the most common causes of dark spots, so you can have the knowledge you need to minimize the risk of getting more.

  • Sun Exposure- One of the most common causes for dark spots is too much sun exposure or time in tanning beds. This is such a common reason that dark spots are often referred to as sunspots. Protect yourself from sun damage and dark spots by using a sunscreen whenever you will be outdoors.
  • Medications- Some medications, particularly NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and tetracyclines can increase your risk for skin pigmentations, including dark spots. While we wouldn’t recommend not taking these medications if you need them, talk to your doctor about any substitutes that might pose less risk if this is a concern of yours.
  • Irritants- Avoid using skin or hair care products that you are sensitive to, as they can cause dark spots to appear.
  • Skin Conditions- There are several skin conditions that can bring about dark spots, including acne, psoriasis, eczema, and other skin inflammation responses. Minimize your risk by taking care of any conditions as promptly as possible.
  • Hormonal Changes- Skin discoloration can often occur during pregnancy and with the hormonal changes that occur as you age.
  • Diabetes- Diabetics can often get areas of darkened skin color due to various dermatology issues related to this illness.
  • Skin Injuries- Some skin injuries, such as burns, insect bites, or cuts can create a dark spot. Since these can sometimes fade with time, it is not always necessary to seek dark spot removal.

Know What Your Technician Uses for Tattoo Makeup

Know What Your Technician Uses for Tattoo Makeup

tattoo makeup professionalIf you are considering tattoo makeup, you should know that it isn’t just the skill of the technician that you should be concerned about. It is also the dyes and pigments they use. While there has been more public awareness about the ingredients that go into traditional makeup, it is even more vital when introducing a material to your body that doesn’t get washed off each day.

To avoid an adverse reaction and unsatisfactory results, your tattoo makeup professional should take utmost care when selecting the supplier of the dyes and pigments they use. If they do not take this seriously and shop for the lowest price, there is no guarantee they’ve obtained a natural or organic product. In fact, if a price is too good to be true, there is a good chance they’ve cut corners and that is not what you want. You should also avoid a place that says they use homemade dyes, as this is not legal in most states and dangerous.

To be certified as organic, every product would have been inspected by a USDA accredited certifying agency. It is not difficult to verify and is something a reputable tattoo makeup professional will have done before choosing a supplier. Your health is too important to put your tattoo makeup in the hands of someone that doesn’t use natural, organic dyes and pigments.

Here at Lily Handt health + beauty, we use all organic, natural dyes and pigments for tattoo makeup and our other procedures. We would never offer a beauty solution that sacrificed your health. Our semi-permanent makeup provides the benefits you want, so you can gain the self-assurance of looking your best at all times. We welcome you to contact us for a consultation so you can learn more about our services and develop a treatment plan that best suits your needs.

Regretting a Tattoo? Consider Tattoo Coverup and Removal

Regretting a Tattoo? Consider Tattoo Coverup and Removal

tattoo makeup professionalWhether you have a tattoo you no longer favor, one that wasn’t done as you wished, or permanent cosmetic tattoo work that you are unhappy with, you don’t have to suffer with it. Circumstances can change in your life and what you thought you’d love forever doesn’t always work out. While the process of tattoo coverup and removal can be complex depending on the colors used, depth of the ink, size of the tattoo, your skin color, and other factors, it is possible.

One of the common ways to deal with a tattoo is altering it to something you like better. However, that isn’t always a viable solution. For example, if you have a tattoo in a location where you no longer want a tattoo at all, tattoo coverup and removal is the only way to go. The process involves using a hand tool and liquid solutions to bring the old pigment to the surface of the skin. Every tattoo is different, so the number of sessions needed is different. You will also need to apply after-care cream and scar gel after each session.

Here at Lily Handt health + beauty in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, our primary focus is the removal of permanent cosmetics that you are unhappy with, but we also have options for tattoo coverup and removal for other types of tattoos. Start by contacting us to schedule a consultation so that we can assess your tattoo and provide a customized treatment plan for effective tattoo coverup for your situation. If you want to overcome a regretted tattoo and achieve renewed confidence in your appearance, give us a call today.

Should You Consider a Makeover?

If you thought getting a makeover was only for celebrities, it might surprise you that is far from the case. While those in front of movie and television cameras need to concern themselves with fighting back against aging and keeping up with an effective skin care regime, there is no reason why you shouldn’t do the same. Think of it this way — if a storm damaged some of the siding on your home or time has caused the paint to fade, would you avoid fixing things because your home isn’t a museum, castle, or other grandiose building? Of course not! So, if your home deserves a makeover, why wouldn’t you?

It might also surprise you that celebrities don’t just do makeovers because they want to look good for their fans. They do it because it makes them happy and confident. Gaining self-confidence is something everyone deserves. Another thing to consider is that they take care of their appearance so that they can boost their professional career. You can do the same. Studies show that looking your best can have infinite rewards, including higher starting salaries, more respect, and more persuasiveness.

Whether your idea of a makeover is permanent makeup to save you time in the morning, a non-surgical skin lift for a more youthful appearance, or correcting issues such as sun spots, moles, freckles, scars, warts, receding hairline, or skin tags, talk to us at Lily Handt health + beauty in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Advantages of Permanent Makeup in the Winter

2.25.19

The Advantages of Permanent Makeup in the Winter

Whether you love winter or aren’t particularly fond of it, you know that there are certain challenges you face when you want or need to go outdoors. Just because you are bundled up in a hat, scarf, and winter coat doesn’t mean you don’t want to look your best. While investing in permanent makeup has its advantages all year long, you’ll find a few added benefits in the winter that you should know about.

  • Permanent Makeup Doesn’t Brush Off- Getting done with applying your makeup only to smudge it or brush it off when you put on a scarf or pull a sweater over your head is frustrating. You won’t have to worry about reapplying your eyeliner, brow shading, or lipstick if you have permanent makeup.
  • Save Time in the Morning- It always feels good to grab a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning and that is even more true in the winter when you are warm and cozy under the covers. Give yourself a few more minutes of enjoyment when you save time not needing to apply makeup.
  • Holds Up to Winter Conditions- Sleet, snow, and even rain during the winter won’t bother you, at least not from the standpoint of messing up your makeup. Look great all winter thanks to permanent makeup.

Here at Lily Handt health + beauty in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, we offer various permanent makeup options using all organic, natural dyes and pigments. If you would like to know more about what to expect when you visit us for the application of permanent makeup or have any questions or concerns you need addressed, don’t hesitate to contact us to schedule a consultation.

The Benefits of Lip Shading

1.25.19

The Benefits of Lip Shading

If you are considering lip shading, it is important that you understand the benefits and have a complete understanding of what you can expect. Since lip shading is a popular semi-permanent trend that is gaining in popularity, it is likely you know others who have had it done. Talking with them is one way to learn more, as is talking with a professional. To get you started, here are a few benefits to consider that can help you decide if it is right for you.

1.  Less need for lipstick. Notice that does not say you will not want to wear lipstick at all. Although most of our hearts will forever love our favorite shades of lipstick, rather you will have your perfectly matched natural shade on your lips already when you wake up each day. You will not have to continuously reapply your lipstick throughout the day or worry about the lipstick bleeding into the cracks of the skin surrounding the mouth, and you will not have nude skin-color lips anymore that blend in with the surrounding skin. Instead, you will have beautiful, sweat-proof lip color that was custom-mixed just for you. The good news is that if you are 100% happy with a particular shade, then you will not have to buy any lipstick.

2.  No leaving lipstick marks. Do you feel frustrated when you get lipstick on a restaurant’s linen napkins? Is your significant other getting annoyed by lipstick on their face or clothing? You will not have those problems any longer with semi-permanent lip shading.

3.  No need to keep applying lipstick throughout the day. This is a real time saver and also means you will have a bit more free space in your purse. You can further reduce your time spent by considering other types of semi-permanent makeup.

If you would like to know more about semi-permanent lip shading and other makeup, give us a call at Lily Handt health + beauty. We will address all your questions before proceeding, so you know exactly what to expect, including the healing process, pain involved (we can minimize it!), cost, and more. Call today to schedule a consultation to learn more.

A Unique Solution for a Receding Hairline

12.28.18

A Unique Solution for a Receding Hairline

Receding HairlineOne of the most common solutions for men who are experiencing a receding hairline is to shave the entire head. However, when shaving, you will still be able to see the 5 o’clock shadow horseshoe shape surrounding the entire back of the head. To avoid this, and as a result give the illusion of a full head of short, shaved hair, we can create a realistic looking hairline customized for you. Micro-scalp pigmentation, MSP for short, helps to blend together the existing hairs with the pigmented hairs together as one. This process is also effective for women suffering from hair loss who wish to recreate a more youthful looking hairline.

MSP is a non-invasive treatment that provides immediate results, so you can gain back your self-confidence. A custom result is attained by mixing organic pigments to match your hair color. You should allow plenty of time for this process as well as make plans to return in 4 to 6 weeks your follow up appointment.

MSP can also address any scarring you might have in the area that was once covered with hair, which can be a distressing part of a receding hairline.

If you have any questions about MSP, do not hesitate to contact us at Lily Handt health + beauty in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Our innovative solution for a receding hairline can help you feel confident about your more youthful-looking appearance. Feel free to ask us about our other services, including dark spot removal, non-surgical lifting, 3D microblading, and semi-permanent makeup. Call today to schedule a consultation to learn more about the solutions we offer that utilize organic pigment.

Is a Non-Surgical Skin Lift Right for You?

11.26.18

Is a Non-Surgical Skin Lift Right for You?

Non-Surgical Skin LiftThere are several reasons why having a surgical face lift might not be something you want to do, and you are not alone. Of the roughly 17 million cosmetic procedures done each year, less than 2 million are surgical, while the rest opt for minimally invasive procedures instead. More people are interested in skin lifts now that there are several non-surgical skin lifting options. In deciding if a skin lift is right for you, you can consider both procedures with needles and those without.

Those with needles are more accurately described as nonsurgical fillers as wrinkles and lines are filled in with either a gel or fat taken from a part of your body; however, keep in mind that when fat is used, it is actually a surgical process. If the idea of needles does not appeal to you either because you do not care for needles or are not comfortable with something being put into your body, consider a needle-free option.

Here at Lily Handt health + beauty, we offer our guests in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area an alternative to needles. Our non-surgical skin lift technique involves a wrinkle removal procedure that tightens the skin. We use a hand-piece that produces a tiny plasmatic flash on each side of the wrinkle that reduces excess skin. Our process can be used on your forehead, eyelids, laugh lines, upper and lower lip, neck, under your eyes, on excess tummy skin following pregnancy, and more. We can also do a full face non-surgical skin lift. If you would like to know more about our process, do not hesitate to contact us to arrange for a consultation.

Outgrown Your Freckles? Consider Freckle Removal

10.25.18

Outgrown Your Freckles? Consider Freckle Removal

If you have grown up with freckles, you have either gotten used to the strange things people say or you are quite tired of hearing them even into adulthood. People do not mean to upset you when they say things such as “Do you have freckles everywhere?” or “Your freckles make you more memorable” but that does not mean you want to hear one more comment about your freckles.

An important note is that freckle removal is not a permanent solution. It does remove the freckles you have currently, but if you want to minimize your chances of getting more, be sure to wear a high SPF sunscreen and keep covered when out in the sun.

We also remove all moles, flat or raised, and skin tags as well. Often times, tiny freckles spread, surrounding a larger mole, leading to more spreading throughout the body over time.

If you would like to know more about freckle removal and taking care of other dark spots, give us a call at Lily Handt health + beauty. Our non-invasive spot and freckle removal technique does not use needles or require medical aftercare. We utilize a hand-piece that produces a tiny plasmatic flash, where electric energy is transformed into electrostatic energy to effectively burn the dark spot so it flakes off in a few days. If you would like to know more, call us to arrange a consultation at our Winston-Salem, North Carolina location.

Things You Should Know Before Doing Permanent Makeup

9.25.18

Things You Should Know Before Doing Permanent Makeup

The idea of streamlining your morning routine so you can grab a few more minutes of sleep each day is something most of us would love to achieve. It would also be nice to have flawless makeup even on those days when the hot shower and first cup of coffee have not been successful at getting you awake enough to do it as well as you would like. These are two of the reasons why permanent makeup is so popular these days. As is the case with anything you do that has permanent effects, you should take the time to learn about this procedure to make certain it is right for you. Here are some things you should know before doing permanent makeup.

  1. It is permanent . . . sort of. Permanent makeup is also referred to as cosmetic tattooing because that is what it is essentially. Just as body tattoos are affected by time and sun exposure, so is permanent makeup. It is meant to last, and you will enjoy it for many years, but at some point, you will need to have it touched up. Keep in mind that all of the pigments we use in our facility are organic. Organic pigments are the best products to apply onto our guests’ skin. Yes, fading is normal and touch-ups along your journey will be optional to maintain the desired look. We like to refer to our services as semi-permanent cosmetic procedures.
  2. Choose your technician carefully. There are many things to be concerned about when choosing where to have your permanent makeup done. Artistry is as important in this situation as it is with a body tattoo, as are safety and technique. Always check your technician’s work beforehand and ask to speak with other clients. If they decline or offer free touchups in a year, you should probably look elsewhere. Safety extends beyond sanitary conditions. Look for a technician who uses organic natural dyes and pigments, which are a natural approach that is free of metallic elements that could be harmful and interfere with medical procedures.
  3. Be sure you are a good candidate. Permanent makeup is safe for most everyone, including all ages, genders, and ethnicities. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and choose to undergo any procedure we offer will need to avoid numbing cream. Those currently on Accutane may wish to wait or avoid our procedures, as this medicine can cause extremely dry and irritated skin conditions, which are not ideal for our services. Those currently undergoing cancer treatments are safe to have our procedures, although heavy blood thinners may be a factor we must look into beforehand. Consultations are normally required if medical conditions may be an issue.
  4. Know your pain threshold. A local anesthetic can be used to minimize pain in more sensitive areas, but do not expect permanent makeup application to be pain-free. All skin types vary, so the numbing cream is absorbed differently on each and every individual.

If you would like to know more about permanent makeup, give us a call at Lily Handt health + beauty. Our use of semi-permanent organic natural dyes and pigments and unique application and artistic techniques set us apart from other professionals in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and all surrounding areas. We care about our guests, so attaining added beauty while protecting your health is important to us. Call today to learn more.

Testimonials

“I’m not very fluent in Vietnamese, but promise to give my best and focus on the essential part – building your skills” – most humble introduction by Lily Handt in of course perfect Vietnamese, not matter if in a one-on-one conversation or speech to hundreds of participants.

To Lily:

YOU, with a fast, meticulous, neat work style.

YOU, with the highest position in the profession.

YOU, have many fans admiring your skills and talent

However, the most successful thing in your life is that you take the opportunity to study, study and continously develop yourself at the top aesthetics schools in Europe and America. Always striving to get better, never letting up, perfection as a personal standard.

You are passionate about everything in the workplace…

Straightforward, cute, humble, smart in a natural way, these are the things that my dearest Lily Handt possesses…

Thank you for giving me the great opportunity to meet and work with Lily Handt.

– Thuy Duong, Vietnam

Art uses the method for the symmetry of beauty, as science uses it for the logical presentation of truth; but in the process of sculpture, in the final details, each is kept distinctly, while the first time it’s out of sight in the context of programs of color and beauty must be the purpose of a creative, it’s your own reward.

The product interface, often in the final stages, is no bigger than a sign that the balance between us and nature has once again been restored by art.

“The mere number of years in the profession is not important, but love and passion for the job”- Lily

We Love Lily Handt!

– Duc Nguyen, Vietnam

This is to Lily Handt, we as her professional students thank her a lot! She is the most skillful vocational teacher we have ever met.

When I first heard about the fee for her training class I was truly worried…but after attending her American-European-standard class, I am really impressed and understand and feel the value for me (even though I had taken classes in that field in Vietnam before).

After my past studies – even after graduating in this field – I always lacked the self-confidence and nearly gave up practicing. Having taken Lily’s class she really lifted me up and took me to a previously unthinkable level. This truely gave me back my confidence.

Thanks to her strong interpersonal skills and personality she really understands her students and patients, is deeply interested in their needs and addresses them in a specific but holitic way. There is no pretending or catches, she really makes sure everythink sticks. When things risk getting tense she injects the right ‘dose’ of humor to prevent pressure from building up.

Lily taught me how to live and work professionally.

After the class I returned to my job in a confident way and Lily’s support gave me the most precious conviction of all: being good at our day by day job and making patients happy. She used to say “You will at some point in the future be better than me”…That’s the motivation for us to strive to be one of the great and accomplished people like her!

I admire you!

Take her as a shining example for me to go through this life always! Love you much

– Huong, Laos

Still love, love, love-ing my brows by Lily Handt! Had my touch up appointment today and still super pleased with the results!

– Barbara

To an amazing person with unique skills, world wide recognized Master in her field; positive strength to meet challenges which most people would not have been able to…a creative and rare combination of wonderful characteristics. I learned a lot during the training wih you, about skills, personal characteristics and life. A privilege to know you, you are special in so many ways.

Recently noted from one who admires her: How very fortunate I am.

– Helga, Germany

The BEST kept secret in Winston-Salem! If you are one of those that over plucked your brows when you were younger, now they may be thin and grey…You found your girl. Lily Handt is by far the most talented lady.

– Jennifer

I am one of the fortunate also. Lily is amazing. Her work is exceptional. She takes time to explain the procedure and makes certain that she understands exactly what you want. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. She takes the time to answer them all before she begins. After you are comfortable, Lily uses cream to desensitize the area. As she works, she checks repeatedly on your comfort speaking in a soft, calming voice. She wants you to be relaxed as well as happy with the results. I honestly felt nothing. This is all good, but she is so sweet, she must be an angel in disguise. I have every confidence in her ability and her professionalism.

She goes over the requirements for after care making sure you understand. As she will explain, please give the area some time following the procedure to heal nicely so you will love the new you. Do everything she says and you will be totally satisfied. I have had so many compliments. People notice, but my brows look natural and well maintained. I do nothing to them when I apply my makeup. The results speak for themselves. I can’t wait for my liner and lip tint.

Lily’s service does not stop there. She noticed a picture of me a few days after the procedure where I was in the sun with my family. She took the time to text me to remind me gently about staying out of the sun until the area was healed. I will go to no one but Lily for she goes the extra mile in making sure you are a happy client!
